DETARC In The Park

CQ CQ CQ – DETARC-IN-THE-PARK is scheduled for Mar 14th 10am-2pm at Grace Dunn Park Gazebo in Lufkin, Tx

We have scheduled a March 14th activity from 10am-2pm at the Grace Dunn city park in Lufkin, TX. This will be at the Gazebo (the hexagon shaped structure not the rectangular pavilion). This is intended to be a fun time of testing our club HF (and possibly the VHF/UHF) equipment and getting some ideas of what we have and what we need to add in order to get us ready for more outdoor HF activities such as the April POTA event, May K5F special event and June ARRL Field day 2020.

This will be an exercise of hopefully stringing up two wire dipole antennas for our two club HF stations. When we get there we will see how complete and operational these stations are. I will be doing an onsite survey of this location this week and will let everyone know what to expect from a power and potential “tree limbs for antennas” status.

This is also putting Mike WD5EFY (our club trustee) on official notice and offering him any assistance he may need to gathering/transporting club equipment to/from the event location.

I think Station#1 is complete and just needs an AC power source but we are short at least a few pieces of equipment on the second station and for the most part Station#2 is just an HF radio and mic. This means no 12vdc power supply, or antenna tuner for Station#2. Those of us who have some gear to fill in the gaps (for this event only, club will not keep any of your equipment!) are welcome to bring it and our intention is to do an inventory of the items we may need to ultimately get at least two complete and operational HF stations for use at club events.

Let’s get this event advertised see if we can have a fun time in the park.

***Another thing to think about, it is during lunch time… I’m thinking if there is enough interest we might dump a bag of charcoal into one of the park pits (if there are some near gazebo) and maybe get something easy like hotdogs, buns and mustard/ketchup. Nothing fancy, bring your own drink kind of thing and contribute towards the dogs. This is contingent on interest of those attending.
